Christmas Meal

Our Christmas meal was held at The Anchor Inn, Oldbury on Severn on Sunday 14 December. Many thanks to all who attended and to Gill King for arranging this event.

A bright and enjoyable walk lead by Cathy, before the Christmas Lunch. Setting off from the Anchor Pub, Oldbury, through parts of Oldbury on Severn some of have not been to before, past the Roman Cottages and the Fort or camp known as ‘the Toot’ and along to the Severn Estuary. We walked along the side of the estuary with clear views over the river and the two Bridges before returning to the Anchor having built up an appetite for a hearty lunch.
As ever, good company, good conversations, enjoyable views and a fine meal afterwards to round off the year. Thanks for leading the walk Cathy and thanks to Gill for organising the meal. Wendy S

02 Nov - Horner Wood walk led by Geoff. Photos taken by Claire Cox.
Another fabulous 10 mile walk today. Nine of us started from Horner Wood and climbed to Dunkery Beacon. I have to confess to struggling a bit with the climbs especially after yesterday’s efforts, but it was such a lovely walk that it made up for the tiredness, the driving rain as we climbed to the beacon and the very steep descent back to Horner Wood. Thank you to our walk leader, Geoff and to our excellent back marker, Jacky who looked after those of us who were bringing up the rear! Well done Severnside! Claire C.
1 Nov - Porlock photos taken by Gill King.
Day 2. 11 of us caught the bus to Porlock Weir then walked back across the beach and around the marsh. We then walked through the pretty villages of Bossington and Allerford before returning to the hotel. Gill K.
01 Nov - Selworthy walk led by Geoff. Photos taken by Claire Cox.
A super walk today for 11 hardy Severnside Ramblers, starting from Holnicote House, Selworthy.. We were so lucky with the weather until the last 15 minutes when it tipped down! But the views and sound of the sea were lovely and the variety of terrain was great. Thanks to Geoff for leading us on such a good walk. Claire C.
31 Oct - Kilve & East Quantoxhead, photos taken by Gill King.
Pictures from our weekend away at HF Holnicote. On Day 1 11 of us enjoyed a short lovely walk round Kilve and East Quantoxhead before joining the rest of the group at the hotel. Gill K.

A few photos from the longer walk, Durlston - Worth Matravers - Swanage. A most enjoyable circular walk along the coastal path from Swanage. The sea breeze was most welcome on a very hot day. Looking fresh as daisies at the start, but less so by the end of the walk! Thanks for leading the walk, Ken. Wendy S.

Walk day 3 Thursday 31st October.
The final day of Sevenside's stay in Malhamdale. Starting from Grassington we followed the Dales Way for a while before dropping down into Conistone. We then went back up to the moors and back towards Grassington through the ancient field systems. Visibility became poor so we cut the walk a bit shorter - just under 8 miles. Thank you very much to Jan and Mike who planned our routes, short and long, and led us over hill and dale! A super holiday planned by Gill King. Again many thanks. Claire.

A glorious long weekend in The Elan Valley, at the Elan Valley Lodge, for a 25 strong group of Severnside Ramblers who were joined by several others from our neighbouring Clevedon group. The poor forecast was, as usual, very pessimistic - we had some light rain on Saturday but fine and dry the rest of the time with clear views across the hills and reservoirs. An excellent choice of walks each day from our two illustrious leaders - many thanks to Steve and Tudor for leading the most entertaining walk'n'talk routes for us. The accommodation was excellent - we certainly didn't go hungry! and the tea & coffee flowed freely. It was a particular pleasure to share time with some of our fellow ramblers from Clevedon - thanks very much for your company guys'n'gals... The rather large collection of photos/videos below (350) is a reflection of the quality of the walks and weather we experienced - a 'target rich environment' as the saying goes. Many thanks to Gill King for your organisational skills, Heather Rickard, Christine Turner and Jill Parkinson for the evening entertainment, Steve and Tudor for your quality leadership, and all the staff at The Elan Valley Lodge - it was a brilliant weekend. You'll need a comfy chair and a long drink if you're going to work through all the photos. Andy P
